Airsoft Team Spotlight: Team Infidel

Goooood morning airsofters! Grim here with another airsoft community interview. There are some great airsoft teams out there, and it can be tough and even a little intimidating to get to the know them, especially if you are new to the sport. In an effort to introduce new players to some of the more established teams out there, we're starting a new segment on the blog called Team Spotlight. Today we have Brian "Warjunkie" Cruz from Team Infidel to tell us a little bit about Team Infidel:

From left to right: Jester, SAC, Mando1911, Wreckless, Chubbs, Warjunkie

SOA: How did Infidel get its start?

Brian: I used to train with Airsoft guns when I was in the Army. You can say that is how I got into playing Airsoft. I moved to California about 4 years ago. I later found out that California is the Mecca for airsoft. I watched some videos on YouTube and found a great team called Rainbow Airsoft about 2 yrs. ago and I just had to get a team together after watching those guys. I founded the team in Blythe, CA. The town is south by the boarder of Arizona. We started out with me (WarJunkie) then I found 2 of our former team members Scout and Ghost. Both were former Paintball players that I got to switch over to Airsoft (HAHA!!!). Then we created our team page on Facebook and we used my existing YouTube Channel for our team one around March 2011 and it has been great from there. I can’t believe how fast we got to where we are today. I later found the rest of our team from our Facebook page. They each bring something great to the table that helps the team. We all hit it off well and played some local games at a rock quarry here for a while. Then around June of 2011 we all decided to take it to a new level and get on the professional level these other teams are on and look into getting a sponsorship.

SOA: How many members are on the current roster?

Brian: 6 Total - WarJunkie, Chubbs, Wreckless, Jester, SAC & Mando1911

SOA: If someone were interested in playing for Infidel, how would they go about it?

Brian: Currently we are not looking for any new Team Members but if or when we do, they would have to be 18 or older, must live here in southern California close by the fields we play at. Most importantly get along well with the rest of the team and represent us in a positive manner on and off the field.

SOA:  How would you describe Infidel’s play style?

Brian: We like to rush up a lot. It makes it really fun trying to get up real close to enemy lines. Makes for great gameplay footage as well. We do a lot of 2 - 3 man buddy team maneuvers using radios. We like to play for the competition and sport of the game.

SOA: Where can Infidel be found playing airsoft?

Brian: You can find us at SC Village in Corona, CA (we like the Viper field a lot),
Hollywood Sports Park’s new Combat Center field in Bellflower, CA and Insight Interactive Indoor Field in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. We post up events on our Facebook team page for when & where we will be playing at that month. We encourage all of our fans to try to come out when we go to any of these fields to play we would like to meet them. We usually have things to give out a lot of the time, like team shirts, bags of BB’s etc.

SOA: Do players on Infidel have specific roles in combat?

Brian: No we do not have any specific roles unless we are playing in a competition like the ACA (Association of Competitive Airsoft) requires. Mando1911 has a 249 SAW, so when he uses that he’s our support guy but everyone else has M4’s or AK’S and gas pistols. We all pretty much use what we want.

SOA: Can you describe one of your favorite airsoft moments?

Brian: Well yes I can, HAHA!! One time when we were playing at SC Village/ Viper field, myself and Chubbs were closing in on the opposing team on the right side of the field by the HUMVEE Trailer. I was pinned up against the outer wall of the building next to it. But long story short I was on the radio right in the middle of telling the team the enemy’s position and a Thunder Bee (grenade) comes flying over the HUMVEE and went off 3 feet away from me and I screamed AHHHHHH!!! into the radio and all the guys heard it and started laughing at me over the radio HAHAHA!! Chubbs had dove into the door way like it was a real grenade. HAHA!

SOA: What would you recommend to those just getting into the sport of airsoft?

Brian: Find a good starter gun. G&G’s are great for people just getting into it. Get all the right gear needed for the job. Be an honest player and call your hits when it happens. And don’t take your Airsoft guns into the public.

SOA:  Is your team currently sponsored? By whom?

Brian: Yes, we are sponsored.

Airsoft Megastore
Zephyr Airsoft
Airsoft Wears Arizona

SOA: How did Infidel become a sponsored team?

Brian: We just had to meet the requirements of the sponsorships and send them all the info that was required to be sponsored by them. Then wait for the Email reply.

SOA: What do you see in the future for Infidel?

Brian: Well, for 2012 we got some big things coming this year that we can’t disclose at this time. We don’t want to ruin the surprise!
As far as 2013 goes - we want to grow more as a team and become better at what we do and have even bigger and better giveaways for our loyal fans we have. We wouldn’t be anything or be where we are today without them all.
