Airsoft Review: JG M4 S-System

Hey airsofters, it’s ya’ boiiiiiii IRONHEAD and as promised here is the review on my newest AEG, the JG M4 S-System (black).

The rundown:

I purchased this bad boy over three months ago from my good friends at Airsoft Megastore and used it several times in several game scenarios. To put it lightly, this gun just rocks! It did not jam or miss-feed any bb’s at all and shot true, up to approximately 190 feet without having to barrel up.  The body of this AEG is ABS plastic, but comes with a full metal RIS (Rail Integration System) and the top of the RIS runs from the front flip up sight to the rear flip up sight giving you tons of real estate to satisfy your ad on needs.  The gun is slightly over 8lbs so it’s a hefty AEG, but honestly I appreciate the realistic weight. It doesn’t feel like I’m carrying a toy out the on the field.

Included in the original packaging is your standard wall charger, battery (8.4v stick type), unjamming rod, “instructional” manual (which has tons of “engrish” lol!), and of course the gun. The JG M4 S-System package with a tight bore barrel and FULL metal gearbox and high torque motor.  Right outta the box this gun has NO wobble and feels comfortable in my hands.  Adding to that comfort is the 4-point adjustable butt-stock. On the CQB side the gun has the right amount of length to maneuver around corners and a good rate of fire to mow down the opposition.  On the open field watch this beauty do work with its tight bore barrel, full metal internals and high torque motor. You’ll be picking off n00bs and mil-sim wannabes’ with their overpriced, hard to pronounce AEG’s.

Internals & upgrades:

As stated earlier this bad mama-jamma comes with a tight-bore barrel which greatly improves distance and accuracy, and a FULL metal gearbox and a high torque motor to hurtle those BB’s down range.  I recently upgraded to a standard 9.6v battery (nunchuck style) and let me tell you, the ROF jumped dramatically and I couldn’t have been more pleased with such a simple upgrade. I also purchased a black, all metal flash hider from Airsoftmegastore to add to the realism and intimidation factor. I had also purchased and used a plastic traditional fore grip but it just never felt right. I then purchased a MAGPUL angled fore-grip from an online retailer and it feels perfect, not to mention it looks cooler than your typical fore-grip you see everyone running.

The verdict:

This AEG outta the box is a heavy hitter, perfect for CQB and strong enough for open field skirmishes.  With the full metal RIS you’ve got room to play with add-ons and a weight that feels good and sturdy in your hands.  The fact that it’s JG also means you get reliability and top quality materials inside and out from one of the most trusted names in the market.  I’m a happy camper and if you don’t believe me, i’ll meet you after the match is over…I’m the one who lit you up from 190 ft away.

Airsoft Review: JG (Jing Gong/Golden Bow G36K)

Call your hits airsofters! It's your ever lovin' Grim here with my review on my JG G36K that I purchased from Airsplat. Now, some of you are probably thinking, "Grim, don't you already have a G36C? Why by another variant of the same model?" You're also probably asking yourselves, "Grim, is it possible for you to be less awesome?" The answer to both would be "Why mess with perfection?"

Anyway, the real reason behind it was just that, well, I just love the G36 design. It's just a damned sexy looking gun. I'm also comfortable with the guns setup and JG hasn't let me down yet and I also needed something with more range than my G36C and Holy HELL does this thing have some range. Now, on to the review.

G36K (K — kurz "short"): carbine variant with a shorter barrel (fitted with an open-type flash suppressor) and a shorter forend, which includes a bottom rail that can be used to attach tactical accessories, such as a UTL flashlight from the USP pistol. The carbine's barrel lacks the ability to launch rifle grenades and it will not support a bayonet. The weapon retained the ability to be used with the AG36 grenade launcher. G36Ks in service with German special forces are issued with a 100-round C-Mag drum. There are two variants of the G36K. The first and most commonly known has x3 scope/carry handle attached to the top, while the second is the one with the iron sights and rail (no scope included)

Now being a JG there are certain things that are a given that you'll be, well, given when you purchase this gun: an unjamming rod, wall charger, 8.6v 1100 mAh battery, crap bb's (WHY do they still give these? Can someone answer this for me?), very good english instructions, and one high capacity (470 rd) plastic magazine and a blaze orange barrel plug. The usual list for JG's anyway.

This gun is virtually identical to the G36C so it's made of ABS plastic, meaning it's very solid and has no wiggle. It has a skeletonized, folding stock and ambidextrous fire select and mag release. The main differences between this and the G36C are of course the longer inner barrel (16" vs. 11.5" on the G36C), the longer hand-guard and the integrated 3x magnifying scope.


Performance:

The range on this gun is fantastic! Using .20g bb's in combination with the 3x magnifying scope,  I could hit targets within the 170-175ft range with reasonable accuracy (as a side note, there are also "manual" sights on the top of the scope for quicker target acquisition). I think the 190 ft range that is advertised on Airsplat is on the extreme side, and I wouldn't bet the farm that you could even graze a target at that distance. However, I will address that again in the My Setup section of this review. Also, the rate of fire is consistent with the G36C, with a much tighter grouping at range.

Issues:

None. And I mean that. I freaking adore this gun! I honestly can't think of a single complaint. Even the weight of the gun is not that much of a issue.



My Setup:

Here is where it gets more interesting. As you can see in the picture, I've added some external upgrades to this gun. My goal is to turn this into a squad support weapon, so to that end I've added the following:

• UTG Shooters Folding Bipod (Amazon) 
• Matrix 1,000 rd Electric Auto Winding Magazine (Evike) 
• JG Full Metal Auto Tracer Unit (Airsoftmegastore) 

The reason for not going with a full drum style magazine was two fold: first, the gun is heavy enough as is, and adding an extra 1,500 rds just seemed excessive. Also, having the dummy 5.56mm rounds showing just looks freakin' cool. The magazine is activated by pressing a small button on the trigger side of the magazine, which automatically feeds bb's, enabling me to lay down ridiculous amounts of fire.

Now, a word on the range. Having added the tracer unit to the barrel has increased the barrel length by about 6" and along with the integrated scope the effective range of this AEG seems to be about 180 ft. I know that using this gun in tandem with the tracer unit at SC Viper, I was able to hit targets on the second story of the palace side two story building while shooting from the one nearest the field entrance. Not only that, but the tracer unit allows for me to use this gun during night games when used in conjunction with glow in the dark bb's.

You can obviously tell that I would highly recommend this AEG to anyone looking for a quality, affordable long distance rifle. It is definitely a hefty gun, so you will feel it after running around with for a few hours. But without a doubt this is a definite recommend on my part.

Review: JG (Jing Gong/Golden Bow) G36C/G608

Hey airsofters, welcome back! It's Grim, and today I'll be going over the first review for the blog, my JG G36C. Before I get into the review, I'd like to give you a little history on the real steel counterpart for this AEG.

The shortest member of the 5.56 mm G36 family, the G36C is a Compact Carbine with a 9 inch (228 mm) barrel. With the butt-stock folded it measures 19.67 inches (500 mm) and is shorter than a 9mm MP5. The G36C is the shortest standard production 5.56 mm carbine made. Its short size makes it especially handy for vehicle operations or any application where a powerful and compact 5.56 mm weapon is required.

World Guns:

The Heckler und Koch G-36 assault rifle had been born as HK-50 project in early 1990s. The reason behind that project was that the Bundeswehr (the German army), after the cancellation of the G11 and G41 projects, was left with outdated G3 rifle and no modern rifle, compatible with the current NATO standards at hands. Therefore the famous company Heckler & Koch was set to develop a new assault rifle for both German army and the export. The new 5.56mm assault rifle has been adopted by the Bundeswehr in the 1995, and in the 1999 the Spain adopted its slightly different, export version, G36E as its standard infantry rifle. The G36 also found its way into the hands of various law enforcement agencies worldwide, including British police and some US police departments.

The Jing Gong G36C, which I purchased via Airsplat almost two years ago, is built from ABS plastic, which means it only weights about 7 pounds but is extremely solid and can take a hell of a beating. In all the skirmishes I've taken this beauty into, I've never had any issues with anything breaking or getting loose. And since this was the only AEG I had for a while, I took it EVERYWHERE. The front and rear sights, hand guard sling mount and fire select are the only things on the outside that are metal. I really do have no issues with this, since I appreciate the decreased weight.

The fire select switch and charging handle are ambidextrous, and the hand guard sling mount has points on either side for slings. There is also one sling point just before the hinge for the folding stock and another sling point just behind the butt of the stock. This gives players several options for sling attachments. Personally, I prefer using a bungee sling on the hinge mount.

The gun came with one high capacity (470rd) mag, one wall (trickle) charger, one 8.6v 1100 mAh battery, and the usual bag of crap bb's (you're better off tossing them in the trash or loading into an airsoft claymore), an unjamming rod, a blaze orange barrel plug, blaze orange flash hider and instructions. I was instantly impressed with how solid the gun felt in my hands, with no wiggle, and just the right amount of heft. The folding stock locks into position with a satisfying "clack", and only requires a minimum amount of force to reset. On the top of the gun is a rail system that runs from the rear sight all the way to the front sight. Below the hand guard is the only other rail system.

On the CQB field, this gun rocks! The rate of fire, even with an 8.6v battery, is very good and using .20g bb's (I prefer Madbull or TSD) gives you a fairly tight grouping up to about 60-70 feet. Beyond that and the spread increases too much to be reliably accurate and the velocity drops off to where your targets are gonna pull a NEO on you (i.e they'll have time to see it coming and dodge your fire). When chrono'd on the field with .20g bb's the gun tends to chrono between 350-370 fps. Occasionally I'll use .25g bb's (just to make sure people KNOW when they're getting hit), which drops the fps to somewhere between 320-350.

Regarding the internals:

Since I'm no airsoft tech, I'm not comfortable just yet taking the gun apart to examine the internals. According to Airsplat, the gearbox is full metal so that is as far as my knowledge of the internals goes.

Issues:

I have very few issues with this gun. However, I've noticed a few misfeeds due to the magazines every now and then. Also, because the flash hider is somewhat recessed in the hand guard, you're going to have difficulty attaching a tracer unit or any other kind of barrel extension unless you use some kind of thread extension. My major complaint is with the attachment points for coupling magazines together. Because the magazine is not made of the same ABS plastic as the gun, this means the couplers are basic plastic. Thus, after a few uses the couplers broke off of at least three of the four magazines that I own. Also, these couplers can get snagged inside of magazine pouches.

My setup:

With the G36C, I use a lower rail mounted, UTG Five Position Foregrip, with just enough room left for an NC Star red laser. As I mentioned earlier, I also use a one point bungee sling that I attach to the sling mount nearest the stock. On the top rail I use a Hammers red dot sight I purchased from Amazon.

All in all, the JG G36C is an incredibly reasonably priced, reliable, solidly built, and powerful mid-level AEG. Retailing for around $120.00, I would highly recommend this gun for those just getting into the sport of airsoft as it bridges the gap between CQB and mid-range combat nicely. This allows for versatility in play styles without compromising With it's upgradeability, this gun can easily compete with guns on the field at twice the price.
